August 2009
Any time we can, we will fly mid-week. Ralph Gibson and Dave Drummond available to tow, with adequate notice.
A rather brief newsletter this month. We’ve had two day’s flying in July and two so far this month. The two days on Thursday and Saturday last week were rather good and enjoyed by all who were there. John Tullett did well on Saturday. Having rigged DN, he was off and away for two hours. Will Hopkirk in TE followed Tim up onto the mountain, joined shortly after by Steve and me in WZ. Soaring the face of a cloud street a delightful way to spend the afternoon. Best height 4500ft ... err... we maintained our release height!! But no turns in lift, just kept going. Radios a big help in keeping in touch. Earlier Tim took his son Ben and Ben’s friend, Kody Simpson for flights in WZ. Ralph Gibson towed on Thursday and Les Sharp on Saturday.
Website: As you know, it's now up and running and although there remains more work to be done, it's OK so far. Thanks for your kind comments on it.
QGP lectures: One or two remaining and a radio course is to be organised.
25 years back: Not much flying. Auster BDW to have a C of A. A wing spar was found to be cracked, which caused a lot of extra repair work. Bob Struthers leading the charge, as usual. Papa Mike.
Stats: July: Aircraft Time Flights JB 1hr 10m (7) WZ 1hr 55m (6) TE 57m (3) VB 41m (3) RWS 2hrs 30m (19) August: WZ 3hrs 58m (4) TE 2hrs 33m (6) VB 37m (2) XC 1hr 13m (1) RWS 1hr 41m (13) JTA 9m (1) Lynn & I are away for a few days and flying days are in the hands of Richard (06) 7568248 and Tim (06) 7647573. RWS is to have rust areas on parts of the fuselage removed by Paul Muller. This has been in the pipeline for quite some time now but needs to be finished with. The aircraft then to have its annuals done. Hopefully, everything will be done expeditiously. Dave Drummond advises that a Piper Cub might be available if necessary. And from the meeting tonight .. John Tullett is to purchase DN. Further information as it becomes available. He’s going to make an honest glider out of it. |
